Pedagogy

Guillaume Chevillon

I am Academic CoDirector (for ESSEC) of the ESSEC|CentraleSupélec Master in Data Sciences & Business Analytics. Together with Nikos Paragios from CentraleSupelec (and now Roberto Reno, Fragkiskos Malliaros & Pierre Gallet), we've been running this program since we welcomed the first cohort in 2015.

I'm very proud of this Master which has been very successful so far, with great students and professors involved. It was the first joint master between a business school and an engineering school that was accredited by the French Ministry of Higher Education at the master level. We have designed a companion program, the Bachelor in AI, Data & Management Sciences

My teaching focuses on statistical methods for understanding, modelling and prediction in Business, Economics and Social Sciences.

A related question of interest to me is what Data Sciences bring to Social Sciences. A Set of slides of mine about a presentation I made in the Edgar Morin Chair on Complexity can be found here. I also participated in the MOOC on Complexity, available on Coursera, organized by Edgar Morin and ESSEC

More recently I have been developing courses and programs on AI, Data Sciences and their intersection with Social Sciences and Economics.

Recent Courses I have taught.

AI & Creation (with Jeff Guess – Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts de Cergy, ENSAPC)

Starting in the fall of 2023, we have created a course that gathers 15 Management students from ESSEC and 10 Artists from ENSAPC. Students learn to work together and produce a joint output of their choice. Defining the type and purpose of this outcome is one of the objective of the course, delivering it is another. It can include curatorial or artistic projects, an exhibition, the production of an NFT, a prototype... One of the focuses of the course is to interact with technology (AI, Machine learning, VR, the Blockchain....) but this cannot be an end in itself.

In 2023/24, we decided to invite an artist, Mounir Ayache, who works on ArabFuturism and he proposed to jointly produce a video game. The appeal of this project lies in the fact that it is carried out by a group of people from very different cultures, who do not know each other and who do not have any particular technical skills. The project was exhibited at Ygrec-ENSAPC Arts Center in Aubervilliers and at POUSH between March-June 2024.  See the link for more details.

In 2024/25, the guest artist is Nicolas Gourault with the help of Elouan Le Bars.

Business Statistics & Introduction to Analytics (until 2022)

This is the only compulsory course in the Master in Management (Grande Ecole Program). The aim of the course is to provide a comprehensive and practical methodology for extracting information from data.

The course is given to about 350 students each year. I conceive the content, pedagogical methods and coordinate about 10 external lecturers each year.

Forecasting & Predictive Analytics

This is an elective course for the Grande Ecole Program and a fundamental course for the ESSEC-CentraleSupelec Master in Data Sciences & Business Analytics. In the Master in Data Sciences and Business Analytics, we gratefully thank Datacamp classroom for providing free access to their services for our students.

Beyond understanding the tools that are used in Predictive analytics & Forecasting, the aim of the course is to make the link with the developments of social sciences. Indeed when forecasting is about the output of human behavior, we must be very careful and need to think about the interaction between human beliefs and their environments.

In the past I also taught Predictive Models & Help towards decision in the MS in Strategic Management of international Business.
